In the Caernarfonshire dialect "pentref" (=village) becomes "pentra". Llithfaen is a former granite quarrying village which experienced much depopulation after WWI. The name Llithfaen has a geological root. Its meaning is "lodestone" i.e. magnetite with magnetic properties.
