Map lichen or just map-like?
Map lichen or just map-like?
The delicate outlines and subtle patterning of this lichen bear an uncanny resemblance to old field boundary maps. This is caused by the regular outward expansion of separate lichen growths.
The patches of moss create an additional impression of clumps of woodland!
I do not know whether this is so-called map lichen (Rhizocarpon geographicum) or a commoner species.
