SU1332 : Western entrance to Old Sarum's bailey

taken 10 years ago, near to Lower Woodford, Wiltshire, Great Britain

Western entrance to Old Sarum's bailey
Western entrance to Old Sarum's bailey
The causeway across the outer ditch on the western side of Old Sarum. The iron-age hillfort had an entrance here on the western side, but the earthworks have been greatly altered throughout the site's history. The eastern entrance has a less straightforward layout, with a horn-work or 'barbican' added in the late Iron Age.
