Coastal headland on the Cardigan Bay
Coastal headland on the Cardigan Bay
Rough grassland interspersed with gorse is the dominant vegetation here. The hills along the coast form a watershed. As a consequence there are only short streams running off directly to the sea, sometimes ending in waterfalls and always dug deeply into the hillside. The east side of the coastal ridge drains towards the Ystwyth and Wyre rivers which have created sizeable breaches in the cliffs around their estuaries at Aberystwyth SN5881 : Rainbow over Trefechan Bridge, Aberystwyth and Llanrhystud SN5369 : Llanrhystud.
