Magna Carta Memorial, Runnymede
The Magna Carta Memorial was established by the American Bar Association to commemorate the signing of the Magna Carta, (the great charter), which is held as being the first "bill of human rights", and established the principle of freedom under the law. The charter was signed by King John on the 15th June 1215 at a location on the opposite side of the Thames to the memorial.
