Detail of font, St Mary’s Church, Winterborne Whitechurch
Described as "Very odd indeed" by Newman and Pevsner. The font dates from about 1450. This shield, one of four, is described in the church guidebook as "a fess dauncette between three lions rampant", "the arms of the family of Rochford, lords of the manor of Whitechurch". Above is a cornice of grapes and foliage.
