Pond on Appleby Golf Course
The pond must have formed (or been manufactured) quite recently as it is not shown on OS mapping only a few years old. No doubt it will benefit small boys prepared to paddle about retrieving golf balls in the summer and selling them on via the club professional (well, that's the sort of thing we got up to in my youth, don't know if the current generation would think it financially viable, we didn't get much pocket money). There are a plethora of paths, some, like the one crossing the inlet to the pond on the right of the view, surfaced with grippy all-weather plastic, whilst the actual public rights of way seem less used and harder to follow. It's all CROW Access Land, so there's no harm in wandering randomly on dreich days when no-one is sending small hard objects flying about at high speed - I was a bit surprised, golf courses at home would still be crowded on a Saturday, no matter how awful the weather, except in thick fog or gales. Must have been a hardier bunch back then.
