TF3243 : Boston Docks branchline, Boston

taken 9 years ago, near to Boston, Lincolnshire, Great Britain

Boston Docks branchline, Boston
Boston Docks branchline, Boston
This railway line branches off the Grantham to Skegness line at Spalding Road, crosses London Road at this point and then goes over The Haven waterway via a swing bridge to get to the Riverside Quay and Boston Docks. The photograph illustrates a ‘catch point’. Catch points are used to ‘catch’ and derail/stop rail traffic which would otherwise cause damage if allowed to proceed along the track (for example a runaway locomotive or wagons). The signal has a lattice post, which leans away from the line.
