Aberarder
Aberarder
Former farmland, now reverting to woodland scrub beneath Creag Meagaidh. The lower slopes of this vast plateau hill were bought in the 1980s by a company planning to plant up with sitka spruce, that is when the farm packed up. Environmental outrage followed as almost the whole of the rest of the glen is planted. Eventually it was bought by the forerunner of Scottish Natural Heritage and became a nature reserve. Now the forest is returning, after a reduction in deer numbers, again controversial. Now it is native trees.
