Bishop Remigius memorial
Part Easter Sepulchre and part memorial to Bishop Remigius, the first Norman Bishop of Lincoln and builder of the earliest parts of the Cathedral. He was appointed as Bishop of Dorchester in 1067 by King William I and transferred the see to Lincoln c1073, he died on May 5th 1092 .... on the eve of the consecration ceremony of the new Cathedral. The three eastern (right-hand) bays are the Sepulchre proper with the sleeping Roman soldiers depicted below. It is of exquisite workmanship and an early example of Decorated Gothic as its date is c1295
