Linkinhorne: Wheal Jenkin, Caradon Hill
Linkinhorne: Wheal Jenkin, Caradon Hill
The hill is dominated by a television mast which transmits to the Plymouth area and also handles digital services for BBC Radio Cornwall, Plymouth Sound and Pirate FM. The ruined engine houses of Wheal Jenkin survive nearer the camera. On the right is the house for the steam engine that pumped Bellingham’s shaft from 1887. The stamps engine house of 1882 is further to the left. The mine closed in 1890: only 292 tons of black tin was produced. [Source: Kenneth Brown and Bob Acton, Exploring Cornish Mines, Volume 3.
