NZ9702 : Peak Alum Works
near to Ravenscar, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Peak Alum Works
Alum was produced here from 1650 to 1860. Alum shale was quarried from NZ9701 and processed here in a complex operation involving seaweed and human urine. The resulting alum flour crystals were exported by boat from the foot of the cliffs below. The site is the care of the National Trust, and there are several display panels describing the works.
