taken 10 years ago, near to Thirlby, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Old holloway, Garbutt Wood
Old holloway, Garbutt Wood
A bridleway ascends the steep hillside eastwards from Southwoods Lodge, and alongside it are several other abandoned holloways once used by travellers making their way up into the hills. This route was most likely one leading from Rievaulx Abbey to its granges to the west of the hills.
