A Liverpool tram at Crich Tramway Village
The car nearest the camera is ex-Liverpool Corporation No 869, one of the famed 'Green Goddess' bogie cars. Many unwise transport decisions were made in the 1950s and 1960s, but the abandonment of the Liverpool tramways must rank among the worst decisions ever made. Mile after mile of reserved sleeper tracks ran along the centre of all the main arterial roads out of the city were abandoned, which would have formed the basis of an enviable light rail system. Now in 2008, Liverpool is trying to persuade the Treasury to help it to build part of just such a system.
