Sorry for the quality of the picture, here is what it says:
When a Victorian church new St. Chad's was built just half a mile/1Km away in 1863, this tiny chapel was left standing in the fields. Even so, its churchyard remained the only burial ground in the parish and continues as such today.
Old St. Chad's dates from 1689-91 and is built on the site of a much older timber-framed church. Local gentry have long patronised this chapel, two private box pews and a gallery reached by outside steps reflect their influence.
Monthly services are held during the summer. The most popular is Rushbearing Day-an ancient ceremony, when freshly cut rushes are strewn over the floor.
Inside the church towards the Communion Table, the furniture is all original 17th. century.
The Hearse was made in 1880 by a firm of coachbuilders from Dodington, near Whitchurch - just three miles [5Km. to the south]. The gift of a former vicar, it was last used in the 1920's, since then it has been restored by the County Museum Service.SJ5246 : Old St. Chad's Alone-in-the FieldSJ5246 : Old St. Chad's Church
