Dartford: Littlebrook Power Station
Dartford: Littlebrook Power Station
A power station was first built here by the Kent Electric Power Company between 1936 and 1939, the site being selected because of the availability of ship borne coal and a plentiful supply of cooling water for the turbines. Four power stations, Littlebrook 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' have been constructed. The current station 'D' is the remaining operational one, the operating lifespans of the others being 1939 - 1973, 1949 - 1975, and 1952 - 1981 respectively. The current 'D' station was built by the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) and was commissioned in 1981. The chimney is a prominent landmark.
