SP1579 : St Katherine statue

Solihull, Warwickshire, Great Britain

St Katherine statue
St Katherine statue
The figure on the south face of the Fawcett campanile shows St Katherine (the local idiosyncratic spelling) of Alexandria, patron saint of scholars and co-patroness of the chapel. The wheel on which she was martyred forms her halo; she tells the points of philosophy on her fingers and spurns with her feet a worldly crown. The sculptor was John Poole (1960).
