Old boiler
At Cambridge Museum of Technology, Cheddars Lane. One of the original Babcock and Wilcox water tube boilers. These were fitted with refuse destructor cells. Town's rubbish was burnt to raise steam to drive the sewage pumps. Using waste to move a different sort of waste. There is nothing new about burning rubbish to produce power. This is 1894 vintage. Removal of a destructor cell exposes the water tube nest and steam drum.
