The Berkshire Downs between Lambourn and Ashbury
The Berkshire Downs between Lambourn and Ashbury
The view from Near Down. The sheep are in the field immediately south of byway crossroads on Fognam Down. The B4000 runs, roughly speaking, across the middle of the picture, above the brownest field and below the small copse. The view encompasses Berkshire and modern day Oxfordshire and possibly a smidgeon of Wiltshire at centre left. The boundary with Oxfordshire descends from the skyline at top right diagonally leftwards, following the line of a bridleway. Kingstone Down and the top of Weathercock Hill are in the shadow of a passing cumulus cloud.
