Monument to General Sir Alexander Leith
General Sir Alexander Leith of Freefield and Glenkindie was born in 1774. He was the son of Alexander Leith of Freefield and Glenkindie and Mary Elizabeth Gordon. He married, firstly, Maria Thorp, daughter of Robert William Disney Thorp and Ann Catherine Grant, on 13 February 1816. He married, secondly, Mary Mackenzie, daughter of Roderick Mackenzie, in March 1841. He died on 19 February 1859. General Sir Alexander Leith of Freefield and Glenkindie gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 31st Foot. He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).
