TL4557 : Parish boundary marker
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, Great Britain

Parish boundary marker
Boundary between the parishes of St Mary the Less (on the left) and St Bene't's (on the right), painted on the lintel of the side doorway at 27 Trumpington Street. The letters S.B.P. (for St Bene't's Parish) are still quite clear, but the last two digits of the year are difficult to make out; they would have been periodically repainted at Rogationtide perambulations ("Beating the Bounds") during the 19th century. Little St Mary's still beat their bounds annually, but their side of the marker is now obscured by the drainpipe.
