Stroudwater canal near Fromebridge
Stroudwater canal near Fromebridge
This unnavigable stretch of the Stroudwater canal to the west of the A38 is badly overgrown. The WW2 pillbox on the left (a prefabricated 'thick-walled' type 24) was part of "Stop Line Green" and used the canal as a natural anti-tank ditch. When completed in 1940 the pillbox overlooked a working wharf.
