TL4158 : Ridge and Furrow

taken 9 years ago, near to Coton, Cambridgeshire, Great Britain

Ridge and Furrow
Ridge and Furrow
The undulations were caused by a consistent pattern of ploughing over many centuries, when this area was part of a large open field in the Middle Ages. It has not been ploughed in modern times so the undulations remain. The ridges will stay drier than the furrows, increasing diversity in the grassland.
