In 2006 local artist Michael Trainor instigated the FIBA (Feeble Ideas and Bad Architecture) awards, a public vote to find the worst local buildings in various categories LinkExternal link . The Beetham Tower won the award for Greatest Lost Opportunity, ahead of Bridgewater Hall and The Circus. (Manchester Evening News 24 June 2006).
