'The Bishop of Buckden'
'The Bishop of Buckden'
Memorial in St.Mary's chancel to the controversial Thomas Barlow, Bishop of Lincoln 1675-1691. Unquestionably of a brilliant mind and great academic achievement, he was disparagingly referred to as 'The Bishop of Buckden' as he much preferred the Bishop's Palace at Buckden LinkExternal link to his residence in Lincoln. He died at Buckden on October 8th 1691, aged 85, having only visited Lincoln twice during his 16 years as Bishop.
