Oak of Honour
Oak of Honour
Planted in 1905, this oak is on the site of the original reputed to have sheltered Elizabeth 1 when she took a rest under its canopy. The present tree celebrates the opening of One Tree Hill as a public open space. The plans to build on it at the start of the Twentieth Century caused protests which were supposed to verge on riots.
