This impressive bird was being readied for a flight.

Mick Lobb has written has follows: -
Came across your photograph and after a bit of research came across this: 'The Sandringham in question was converted from a Sunderland III, and which had served the RAF as ML814. It was later converted to Mk V spec with Pratt & Whitney engines and served various owners until acquired by Edward Hulton, in whose ownership it was kept at Rochester for a while. It was the last airworthy Sunderland in the world, and was flown across the Atlantic to its new home in Florida in 1993, where it is owned by Kermit Weeks and displayed as a part of his 'Fantasy of Flight' collection'. See LinkExternal link for another picture - of the aircraft in flight.

I would guess from the photo that it was being prepared for its flight to the States when the photo was taken rather than for an imminent departure - note the lack of a starboard wing tip!

Thanks Mick
