According to tradition Pabo was a Celtic king ruling over part of the Pennines. His epithet was Post Prydain - the pillar of Britain. After conversion to Christianity he is said to have retired to this site and founded the original church. See LinkExternal link
The large churchyard yew visible in SH3786 : Eglwys Pabo Sant has been split and blown down by recent gales and is being cut up for firewood.
