Brunton House
The colourful history of this house can be found at Link
Why the governors of Giggleswick School used to toast the health of the "old wives of Brunton" on Potation Day (March 12th, St Gregory's Day) at the Hart's Head Inn is not fully explained. There seems to be a connection with the William Clapham of 1603 who left £4 4s 4d a year to "the poor scholars" of Giggleswick for a potation and to fund some of them ato Christ's College Cambridge.
