near to Massytown, Macroom, Mount Massy and Kill, Cork, Ireland
West face of keep, Macroom Castle
Built some time in the 12th. century, the castle was occupied until burned in the War of Independence (1916-22). Most of the shell was demolished in the 1960s for public safety reasons. The view from the town bridge is still very imposing.
