NN1571 : Five Finger Gully

Five Finger Gully
Five Finger Gully
Notorious death trap on Ben Nevis. A slight miscalculation in following a bearing from the summit, and/or changing direction in the wrong place can lead to an easy descent of the upper slopes of this very steep corrie. Soon it turns to corniced crags and icefalls. Sadly features in the news every year.
Everyone knows about the big scary North Face, and the understandable desire to avoid its cornices can push folk off their bearings and into this trap.
The zig-zag course of the tourist path can be seen, uncomfortably close.
