Iffley lock in action
Iffley lock in action
The upstream lock gates are open to allow the lock to fill, when they are closed the downstream lock gates will open and the boat will sink down as the lock empties. This has always been a busy lock but in past times the traffic was not so much recreational as commercial: coal and other freight that was taken over by road and rail.
