SJ4065 : Entrance to Edgar's Field

Entrance to Edgar's Field
Entrance to Edgar's Field
These impressive gate posts flank the entrance to Edgar's Field from Handbridge, although I imagine the gates themselves were sacrificed for salvage during the second world war. The painted fire hydrant sign probably also dates to that time, and there is also a benchmark, from an earlier period, on the low wall to the right of the entrance. See also SJ4065 : Gatepost and benchmark by Edgar's Field. The reputed Roman shrine to Minerva can be seen in the distance on the right of the left hand gatepost.
