The trimming was started by Amos Alexander in 1870. He lived in the gatehouse, now (1999) empty with jackdaws nesting in the chimney pots. It is two square single storey buildings with pyramid roofs, with a walled yard between. The house has parlour, kitchen and two bedrooms, the outhouse washroom, storeroom? and privy.
