The church of St Lawrence
Situated beside the busy A151 Norwich to Stalham road. The round tower has distinctive carstone detailing and dates to the 12th century. The nave is 14th century > TG3221 : The church of St Lawrence - view east - TG3221 : The church of St Lawrence - view west but the church was greatly restored in the 18th century, when the Preston family of Beeston Hall > TG3221 : Looking southeast took it upon themselves to turn the church into their mausoleum. During this time the interior received its ceiling with Gothick panelling, which imitates that in the entrance of Beeston Hall. The church contains many wall monuments to members of the Preston family > TG3221 : The church of St Lawrence - chancel - TG3221 : The church of St Lawrence - wall monument; the tomb chest is to Jacob Preston (d. 1683) > TG3221 : The church of St Lawrence - tomb chest.
