St Michael's Kirk, Gordon
St Michael's Kirk, Gordon
This plain Church of Scotland building, at the west end of the village, was rebuilt in 1897 replacing one of 1763. According to a sign at the entrance gates, the church was founded in 1171. The main south front is symmetrical with an inscription over the west door "rebuilt in 1897". The west gable wall has a bellcote and there is a good variety of table and altar tombs in the churchyard. (Source: Pevsner Architectural Guides - Borders).
