The watch house at Gordon Parish Church
The watch house at Gordon Parish Church
The ivy on this old building and stone churchyard wall has been cut back. The inscription on the wall memorial is in very good condition and has not weathered because of the protection from the ivy.
A watch house was a small stone building, constructed within or with sight over, a graveyard in order that watch could be maintained over interred corpses to rebuff the attentions of bodysnatchers.
