River Alun below Tyddewi/St David's
The only river on St David's peninsula is the little Afon Alun, seen here flowing SSW beyond the cathedral and Bishop's Palace into Dyffryn Alun, the Alun valley.
The area has been known since the early C17 as Merryvale - an English rendering of Hoddnant, the name of the valley within which St David founded his church, also known as Glyn Rhosyn (Rosinam Vallem) in c.1200).
The river flows down the valley to enter the sea at Porth Clais.
