Gas Works Lane, Elland
Gas Works Lane, Elland
This end of the road was originally Exley Lane and crossed the canal to join up with the present Exley Lane beyond the Elland Bypass, and this was the old main road to Halifax, turnpiked in 1735. The road to the left was built in 1777 and the present A6025 from Brighouse in 1815, thus making the part of Exley Lane through the canal wharf redundant as a through route.
