Huntly Castle: Heraldic Panel
The unusually elaborate heraldic panel, dating from the late 16th century, is one of the most important features of the castle. Unfortunately it faces north, and with the shade of the surrounding trees it is normally difficult to photograph. Today, however, the reflected light from the lying snow helped to illuminate it.
The topmost panel in this view has a religious theme and was partly destroyed by Coventanters in 1640. Below this are the royal arms of King James VI and his wife Anne of Denmark, and at the bottom are the arms of the Marquis of Huntly and his wife, Henrietta Stewart.
