Site of Stone and Tile Row, Plashetts
Stone Row was being constructed in 1873 when a reporter from The Newcastle weekly Chronicle visited the Plashetts in that year and he wrote "Just beyond the school, but on the opposite side of the railway embankment, are two rows of the roofed stone houses, which, standing as they do at the very bottom of the slack, are very damp indeed and make one inclined to doubt the truth that Plashetts is a very healthy place: for seldom indeed are damp houses and a low rate of mortality found in one and the same place. These houses are two-roomed ones, but on the hill top above them another half-dozen are in course of erection, each of which will contain three rooms".
