Church of St James, Taxal
The Church of St James (formerly known as St Leonard's) and cottages. Photographed from the Southern approach to the Hamlet looking North.
The tower of the church dates from the 16th century, but the body of the church was rebuilt in 1825, and further restored in 1889. Inside is a tablet to Michael Heathcote (late Groom of the pantry to His Majesty King George III). It reads; "Gentlemen of the Pantry and Yeoman of the Mouth to his late Majesty King George III".
St James remains an active parish church.
