Thriplow Village Sign, detail
Thriplow Village Sign, detail
Thanks to Shirley Wittering for telling me that the man portrayed is Earldorman Byrhtnoth, a Saxon lord who was killed at the Battle of Maldon (Essex) in
991. He left his lands including Thriplow to the Abbot (later the Bishop) of Ely. He is surrounded by daffodils from the annual Daffodil Weekend. Below, the village church, the Old Smithy, and (I guess) a Southern Marsh-Orchid, as found on Thriplow Meadows.

Plaque reads: The Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II 1952 - 1977
