Old Fishmarket Close
Old Fishmarket Close
Once 'a steep, narrow stinking ravine' when used as a poultry and fishmarket. George Heriot who was the founder of the Edinburgh public school Heriots, lived here in 1856. The close leads from the Cowgate towards the Royal Mile. A number of these small closes exist around the Royal Mile, most of which are dark and smelly.
