St Margaret's church - east window detail
St Margaret's church - east window detail
St Margaret's church was greatly renovated in Victorian times and received an extension on its northern side during the 1980s. Because its aisles extend to right up to the western face of the tower, the west end of the church appears very high and wide. The oldest survival is a Norman pillar piscina > TG1319 : St Margaret's church - Norman pillar piscina in the southeastern corner of the sanctuary, decorated with a carving of St George fighting a dragon > TG1319 : St Margaret's church - Norman pillar piscina. The roof of the chancel dates from the 15th century and the font originates from the 13th century but the marble legs it is placed upon are Victorian > TG1319 : St Margaret's church - baptismal font. There are a number of ornate stained glass windows, with the east window being most intricately executed - see also > TG1319 : St Margaret's church - east window detail. The church is open every day.
