Any ideas as to the original purpose of these concrete tubes set into the ground on Ibsley Common?

They are something to do with military activity during the Second World War, not far from the RAF Ibsley control bunker in Newlands Plantation: SU1608 : Second World War bunker in Newlands Plantation, New Forest.

At a complete guess, perhaps a sentry had to sit in it? You can see holes at regular intervals below the rim on the inside of the pipe.
