Woolwich: River Thames jetty
Woolwich: River Thames jetty
I did not know what the original function of this jetty, just downstream of the ferry terminal, would have been when I took the photo.
However, a former resident of Woolwich has now told me that this jetty was where colliers bringing coal to the Woolwich Power Station (now demolished) used to moor up. There were two cranes on the jetty which used grabs to unload the coal and place it on a conveyor belt system which took the coal to the power station.
