Battle of Dunnichen Hill memorial cairn
On 20 May 685, King Bridei and his Pictish army checked the northward advance of the Northumbrians under Ecgfrith with a decisive defeat of his forces. Ecgfrith himself was killed along with his entire royal bodyguard. The cairn in the picture was erected in 1985 to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the battle.
