Grass Snake,(Natrix natrix), basking in the spring sunshine on the edge of Ostlers Plantation, Woodhall Spa. The distinctive yellow collar, behind the head to the top of the picture, was a very bright mustard colour. The dark colouring of its body is often evident prior to the sloughing of its skin.
