Another view of the area where troops were trained during WW1. The trees were not there then, of course. The first steps towards afforestation of Clipstone Forest were taken in 1925 with the signing of a 999-year lease between the Forestry Commission and the Welbeck and Rufford estates for more than 3,000 acres of land, which was to become the new Clipstone Forest.
